What do we do?

Higgins is my English Springer Spaniel with such enthusiasm for life it is infectious. That said, there is nothing he enjoys more than a comfy, cosy snooze on a soft bed after a romp across the fields, or a play in the Windrush river. He is a sociable character who enjoys the company of dogs and people, and yet is also independent enough to amuse himself. He loves to ‘track’, particularly rabbits, and so I put this skill to playful use with games of hide and seek during tea breaks! He is extremely tolerant, and welcoming, and simply wants everyone to be happy and get along.

I am a late developer you might say, as my ‘calling’ to work with dogs has arrived later in my years than I would have liked! My time spent with Higgins walking, playing, and just being, has provided me with the overwhelming desire to learn more about these amazing creatures we share our lives with. To understand them; how they learn; how they cope in certain situations; what motivates them; and what makes them feel good is of paramount importance to their well-being. I have now been studying canine behaviour for over 18 months with an ultimate goal of obtaining a degree in the subject at the Cambridge Institute of Dog Behaviour Training, and to practice as a Canine Behaviour Practitioner. The course broadens and deepens my knowledge and understanding of dogs and their behaviour, and I very much enjoy learning more and more about these fascinating animals. I have regularly spent time volunteering with the Blue Cross Animal Adoption Centre (dog section) to gain further experience in handling a wide variety of breeds with different life histories, and I frequently attend Dog Agility and Training classes, whenever time permits.

My ethos? “Every dog has much to offer us humans, but we must, in turn, provide them with what they need”.

In establishing The Dog Cabin, Higgins and I offer a happy and safe environment for your dog for the occasions when your commitments don’t allow you to do so.
