At 8am the clients begin to arrive. A maximum of four dogs will join Higgins and I as we are keen to keep the numbers manageable, and personal. Whilst waiting for all attendees the dogs busy themselves in the garden, catching up on new smells, stretching their fresh legs, and generally releasing some of their excitement to be back with their buddies again.
Once mustered we can set out on our first walk of the day to use up some of that energy! The public footpaths around the local fields are perfect for those noses, and toys accompany us if preferred. If permitted dogs may be off lead, or remain on a longer lead instead if recall is an issue.
It’s chill-out time upon our return, following a water break and a rub-down with a towel if they are sodden by the long grass they charge through.
Tea break mid-morning means a 15-20minute run in the garden once more, with balls, footballs and toys in abundance.
Having settled into our wooden cabin a choice of chew toys is on offer to while away the time. These may frequently change hands but we have more than enough to go around. This usually precedes another snooze ………don’t they have a hard life?!
My lunchtime represents a longer play, or relaxation in the garden. We play hide and seek, or chase balls, or just sit around in the sun if we are fortunate to see it. Indeed if the weather is warm enough, the doors to our wooden cabin remain open all day so the dogs can amble around to be wherever they wish within the enclosed area the cabin sits in.
Toys are always available, though quiet time is encouraged, and tea breaks are as frequent as possible!
Our final walk of the day, mid-afternoon, is another trek across the fields, or perhaps a short ride away in the car. Higgins and I enjoy our different walks, so why wouldn’t our guests? The intention is to leave them in a tired but happy state.
Our last hour or so before 6pm pick-up may consist of sleep, relaxation, or playtime ……whatever we feel like!
“Izzy loves staying for the day with Chaff and Higgins. It’s also great for me as I know whilst I’m gone she is getting lots of exercise, company, fresh air and fun. It’s such a lovely environment for dogs”.
